I was very excited to learn about an event that was produced by GE on Wednesday, September 6th, in New York City. I'm thrilled to have been invited to attend in person, along with other “Lean Influencers,” including my friends Katie Anderson and Jamie V. Parker. We will be fortunate to be there in person to share highlights from the event via social media, blog posts, podcasts, and more.

The Lean Mindset: The Pursuit of Progress
Before I tell you more about the event, I'm also excited to share that everything will be live-streamed through the Bloomberg Originals YouTube channel, and you can watch it all live. GE posted the videos to their GE YouTube channel as a playlist.

As GE describes:
“At GE, we've been on a journey to deeply embrace a lean mindset, with a relentless focus on continuous improvement and the pursuit of progress at every turn. It's this mindset that gives us the tools and instincts to make the right decisions to best deliver for our customers.”
It's an event intended to be “centered around cultivating the right mindset to deeply embrace lean thinking.”
That's a mindset that, of course, can be used in various departments (not just manufacturing), settings, and industries. Here is a short GE overview about Lean:
Almost five years ago, Larry Culp became the first outsider CEO in GE's long history. There seems to be a monumental culture shift taking place, with more to come.

I'm hoping that this event will give a big boost to the Lean movement — providing energy and opportunities for people who are leading “middle up” and “middle down” to influence their executives and CEOs about the coming testimonials to the power of Lean — not Lean tools, but the Lean mindset.
My understanding is that GE is not looking for the glory here. They aim to showcase the impact that Lean has had more broadly, across multiple industries. And, secondarily, to show how Lean has helped GE.
