Lean coaches love to ask questions like, “Are we winning?”
“Are we winning or losing today?”
“How do we know if we've won or lost?”
We're red.
When it's a simple “red is worse than target” vs. “green is better than target,” that's, of course, an overly simplistic distinction compared to an arbitrary target.
But some things are more important than Lean. Winning and losing means more than cost targets and quality goals.
If we're “red,” what's the recovery plan to get back to green? Can we ever get back there?
In some aspects of life, quite a few people are happy that we're red. They won't want us to get back to green at all. Go figure. It's hard to understand.
